On average, only 75% of people who make a resolution for the new year stick to it after one week. After 6 months, that percentage drops to around 50%. Needless to say, keeping up with your New Year’s resolutions can be hard, especially when it comes to fitness.

So, how can you make sure that you keep with your fitness New Year’s resolutions? What kind of creative methods can you try to keep yourself motivated and stay in shape? Keep reading and learn more about how you can get into the groove of things so you don’t end up giving up on your fitness goals.

Focus on What You’re Already Doing Right

It can be easy to focus on what you’re not doing right. You might not be eating as well as you should, you might not be exercising as much as you should every week, and so on. However, focusing on the negatives is exactly what makes most people give up on their resolutions.

For that reason, you should put those negative thoughts out of your mind and instead focus on what you’re already doing right. For example, you might have mastered a particular workout for beginners, and now that workout is like second nature to you. Or you might have lost a few pounds.

Maybe you decided to buy some healthy food like fruits and vegetables from the grocery store to make a nice lunch or dinner. Whatever the case, focusing on what you’re already doing right may sound simple, but it can go a long way in terms of motivation and dedication. By focusing more on the positives rather than the negatives, this will automatically act as motivation.

The Details

Even if you start small by taking a brief walk or jog every day, this still counts as something and can help you work towards your fitness goals. Many people think that they have to go to the gym on a regular basis in order to reach their goals, but this simply is not true. You can get fit in the comfort of your own home as long as you have the motivation, ambition, and patience to do so.

Whatever the case, once you focus on what you know you can do well, you can start building off of that foundation. From there, you can start adding more exercises, different workouts, and more intense schedules. With a bit of time and patience, you will find that your results will come to you faster than you might expect.

Measure Your Progress

It can be easy to give up on your exercise routine when you don’t see yourself making any progress. However, you may be making plenty of progress, and you just may not realize it. For that reason, it is important to measure your progress closely.

For example, if one of your goals is to lose a certain amount of weight, you should keep track of that. You can do that by stepping on the scale every morning and seeing what the number says. Even if you lose only one pound or even a fraction of a pound, that still counts as progress.

This is true with other aspects of your fitness goals as well. For example, suppose that you want to lift a certain amount of weight with your barbells. It takes a lot of time and hard work to lift a certain amount of weight, but as long as you train every day and slowly build yourself up to your goal, you will eventually accomplish it.

What You Need to Know

The big thing to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t give up. It can be very easy to give up when things start to get difficult, but as long as you power through it, you will thank yourself for it. After all, when you give up, you’ll have to start from scratch if you decide to pursue your fitness goals again.

For that reason, it is much easier to stick to your routine rather than stopping and starting all over again. Besides, once you start keeping track of your progress, you will feel much more motivated to keep going and to build more progress on the foundation you’ve already made.

Get Support From Others

It can be hard to reach your fitness goals alone and without support. Without support, it is easy to give up. However, when you have people to support you and give you a boost of motivation, you will find that it is much harder to give up.

Support from your friends and family, of course, is ideal. Getting fit with your friends can be fun as well. For an even bigger boost of support, you can always join an online fitness group.

An online fitness group can be just as effective as an in-person group. It makes it easy to learn from others and see what other exercises and results other people might be achieving. This is not to mention that it is much easier to stay on track with your fitness routine when you’re in a supportive and welcoming group.
